LONDON (October 27, 2022) – Twelve companies from eight countries walked away with top honors Thursday night at the 10th annual Platts Global Metals Awards, which recognize and celebrate leadership, innovation, stewardship and a commitment to a greener future.

A repeated guest to the gala's center stage was POSCO Holdings, which won in four categories, including Metals Company of the Year, Deal of the Year (its joint venture with China's HBIS), Industry Leadership Award: Steel, and its Chief Executive Officer Jeong-Woo Choi for CEO of the Year. With the quadruple win, the South Korean company made Platts Global Metals Awards history, as the single company with the most award wins in a single year.

In bestowing the multi-titled accolades, the program's independent panel of judges pointed to the vision and commitment to a lower-carbon future that seems to permeate POSCO's business decisions, including its China automotive steel plant joint venture aimed at capitalizing on sustainably manufactured sheet; POSCO's plans for carbon neutrality by 2050; and the company's "agile responses" during pandemic challenges. Judges were impressed with the helmsmanship of Jeong-Woo Choi not only in the carbon neutrality commitment, but for steering the company through a reorganization to help unlock value and advance energy transition.

"It's a mile-marker night for the Platts Global Metals Awards, now in its 10th year as the premier recognition event in the metals and mining industry," said Sue Avinir, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Conferences & Advisory Solutions for S&P Global Commodity Insights, the event's host. "It's also a banner night for the 2022 winners and finalists, alike, for their resilience and leadership overcoming economic challenges from worldwide lockdowns, crippling supply chain issues and conflicts around the world, while simultaneously continuing commitments to a greener future."

Other companies that were recipients of more than one award included: India's Hindustan Zinc, which received the Industry Leadership Award for Base and Specialty Metals and the Corporate Social Responsibility Award for its support of rural villages in India; Jetti Resources won honors in the New Technologies in Metals and Mining Award category and its Chief Financial Officer Hugo Schumann, was named Rising Star-Individual.

First-time winners of a Platts Global Metals Award were Reibus International, taking Rising Star- Company Award, and Hereaus Precious Metals waking away with the Industry Leadership Award for Precious Metals.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on Mark Bristow of Canada's Barrick Gold Corporation. Judges described him as a visionary and pointed to his track record of leadership, demonstrated through acquisitions success, success in "geographically challenging" regions, and for Barrick Gold becoming one of the first companies to publish a sustainability scorecard.
