EU Farm Income Analysis
An evaluation of the EU’s “General Food Law”, was delivered as part of the European Commission’s Regulatory Fitness and performance Programme (Fitness Check) the make sure that EU laws deliver their intended benefits for citizens, businesses and society while removing red tape and lowering costs. This evaluation examined all of the aspects of the “General Food Law” to assess the continuing relevance of the main principles and provisions on which EU feed and food law is based, identify areas which could be simplified or improved, and highlight issues which the legislation does not cover adequately.
A project engagement was conducted for the US Wheat Associates, the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, The Pear Bureau Northwest and the Foreign Agriculture Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. The study measured the economic impact of USDA’s Foreign Market Development Program (FMD) and Market Access Program (MAP), and industry market promotion contributions (referred to in this report jointly as the USDA Export Market Development Programs) on US agricultural exports and the broader effects on the farm economy and the overall macro economy.
A comparison of farm incomes in the EU member states was produced for the European Parliament. This study presented an overview of the income development of EU agriculture and highlighted the dynamics of farm income and its key drivers. Differences between member states by farm size and type were considered, as were differences in agricultural wages. The study provided a comprehensive understanding of farm income levels and what drives them, which allows businesses in the supply chain to understand the cost base of the production of inputs to their business and how this varies by country.
