With Long Range 2 or LR2 tankers bearing the brunt of lower earnings in the shipping industry, shipowners are looking for alternative ways of making money. Here's the current trend: turning LR2 tankers into dirty Aframax vessels. This was particularly popular in Europe in the last quarter, says S&P Global Platts senior editor Sameer C. Mohindru. In this video, he looks at whether the switch is worth it, why rates are expected to come under further pressure, and why not all owners are sold with the idea of converting ships.
