In this episode of the Automotive Podcast Series by S&P Global Mobility, our program host, Gaurav Vangaal, will be joined by Claire Fang, an expert on the Chinese automotive market from the Forecast Intelligence and Strategy team. Claire shares her first-hand experience at the Beijing Auto Show and discusses the expansion strategies of Chinese carmakers. During the Beijing Auto Show, three key trends emerged. Firstly, there was a notable shift towards off-road vehicles and personalized models, moving away from last year's MPVs. Secondly, there was a significant emphasis on technology, with displays showcasing smart car solutions from suppliers. Lastly, there was a decrease in the number of debut models at the show, as more companies chose to launch their vehicles prior to the event and prioritize technology displays. These trends highlight the industry's focus on off-road models, technological advancements, and alternative launch strategies. The podcast then delves into the analysis of various Chinese OEMs. Claire provides insights on BYD's new technology showcased at the Beijing Auto Show and their next steps for global expansion. The discussion also covers NIO's brand positions and strategies, as well as their global expansion plans. Chery, one of the first Chinese OEMs to establish a local plant in the EU, is introduced to the audience. The episode also explores Huawei's impact on the future of the auto industry.
