South Sudan licensing round to open in early 2022 – An overview of first blocks on offer
This year, South Sudan will experience its most important E&P event since independence in 2011: the first Licensing Round with 14 blocks on offer. Round 1 (of three), will open in the early part of 2022. The initial five blocks on offer are unexplored, but available geological data suggest that a fair petroleum system might exist in the Late Cretaceous formations. The blocks are located in the southern extension of the Muglad Basin, which currently produces approximately 100,000 bo/d.
Consulting firm Petro-Tec has a directive by the Ministry of Petroleum to promote the 2022 Licensing Round. In this IHS Markit video session, its Managing Director, Omar Abu-Elbashar, gives us an overview of the first five blocks offered.
