Harnessing the Power of Data Science to Change the Future of Energy
Bill Vass, AWS Vice President of Engineering, examines the cloud, AI, machine learning and other data science technologies that are transforming the energy industry.
How will the Digital Transformation shape the upstream energy industry?
Renewed attention on digital transformation initiatives for 2020 and beyond present both opportunities and challenges for the oil and gas industry where a low-price environment makes managing costs, timelines and operational efficiency crucial to success. S&P Global provides strategies to meet digital transformation needs across asset teams and resource lifecycles.
Judson studies the strategic implications and tactical
applications of oilfield and digital technologies across the oil
and gas value chain in the current role. His recent research
includes the role of technology in managing oil and gas GHG
emissions, new technology commercialization strategies and open
innovation models, and the growing role of digital technology in
field development and asset operations.Prior to joining S&P Global, Judson worked as a management
consultant with the Mitchell Madison Group and held senior
engineering positions with Schlumberger and Anadarko Petroleum
Corporation.Judson holds a BSE from Princeton University and an MS in
Geology from Stanford University.
Michael has over 29 years of experience in increasing value
through data integration and process improvement. He has held
senior leadership positions in oilfield research and technology,
including most recently with S&P Global, now known as S&P
Global Commodity Insights, where he leads the international
upstream business. This expert-based business delivers world-class
research, analysis and insight through integrated content access,
dynamic data science and analytics for E&P companies navigating
