Meet the KY3P Team - Emily Granger
Emily Granger: Associate Director, Sales, New York
Tell us a bit about yourself:
Originally from Pennsylvania, I've been living in New York for the last five years. When I'm not working, I'm travelling, running and eating copious amounts of sushi. Problem-solving has always been one of my biggest strengths, which is part of why I enjoy sales so much.
What's your role at KY3P, how did you get here?
In my final year of my economics degree, I interned for IHS Markit and realized I really wanted to work here. I've been here ever since! I started out as a salesperson in the Regulatory and Compliance team and have accelerated to a KY3P Sales specialist over the last two years.
Currently, I'm covering the east Coast, working with companies as diverse as regional banks to energy and technology firms so there's a constant need to brush up on different industries. After initial conversations, I am responsible for helping clients to become familiar with concepts that can feel foreign. Many people don't even realize they have supply chain issues. I enjoy working through these needs with clients and helping them to decide on the best product offering and fit.
Favorite KY3P memory:
I think that's probably, "The Art of Third-Party Risk", a conference I attended this past year in Austin, Texas. It really stood out for me as a transformative experience with the team due to its small, intimate nature. The roundtable discussions on third-party risk were kept small so I could really engage with clients and prospects in attendance and hear their needs. It was also a great opportunity to get to know other members of the team better.
What do you think is the future of third-party risk/vendor risk management? What is one area that you see the field expanding into?
Shared assessments are the way of the future. For people who are unfamiliar with these, they're a way of standardizing the DDQ process across different industry types. Risk can be more easily assessed because there's an overall measurement standard. In time, there'll be a library of assessments that clients can access and purchase the information [on suppliers?] they need.
KY3P was recently acquired by S&P Global. What has that absorption looked like for your role/workload? How has KY3P changed since the merge?
KY3P has historically been a smaller team, so when we were acquired by such a large conglomerate, a world of new opportunities opened up. We have access to other S&P products, such as Sustainable1, which we will be partnering with in 2023. There is a certain cachet to the S&P name, which, combined with the historically intimate feel of our team, means clients are really getting the best of both worlds. We've seen this in increased client interest and the way we've broken into new industries such as energy and utilities.
What advice would you give to someone looking to break into the world of third-party risk management?
You really need to put yourself out there to enter this space. Coming out of school I brought a curiosity for the field and a strong worth ethic, although being on the job is where I really learnt the ins and outs. Being a risk subject matter expert has definitely made me more valuable as an employee and helped to progress my career.
What do you think sets KY3P apart from competitors?
What I think KY3P does successfully is being true to the "end-to-end" full lifecycle management for our clients. This is something you really don't see in the market today; while most companies are segmented and specialized, we have been able to create a multi-faceted team that can walk companies through the entire process of assessing and mitigating supply chain risk. It's one thing to tell someone where their vulnerabilities lie, but completely another to counsel them through amending them.
